Beneath Apple Manor

by Don Worth released in 1978 played on Apple II (emulated)

☆20251031 still on the topic of games that predate their best-known early examples in their genre... bam is a rogue-like that released two years before the actual rogue was a thing. funnily enough, both games' creators know of this cute paradox and agree that one didn't actually inspire the other - but there aren't too many ways to implement a D&D simulation i guess. there's a pretty cool mechanic that i haven't seen that much, tho: you can pay for a "brain scan" that actually saves your character and takes you back to that saved state if you die. fun! as a side note, i did play the original apple ii version, but there are newer ones for dos and the atari 8-bit series as well... however, this game is such a nicely done love letter for the apple ii pc that i can't help but ask everyone to go for the original version. please do so !!
